Decatur GA is located northeast of Atlanta within the I285 perimeter and is part of Dekalb county. Decatur zip codes are 30030, 30031, 30032, 30033, 30034, 30035, 30036, and 30037. Most notably the city had the option of becoming the southern most stop for the railroads in the 1800s. The residents refused the proposal and the railroads opted for a city to the southwest which later became Atlanta. Through the years the area has retained much of the small town feel that it's forefathers wished to preserve. A bustling picturesque downtown provides the impression of a 1950s cityscape. Decatur has a reputation that is widely described as trendy and progressive, which is supported by a strong base of artists and college students. An example of the city's personality is the construction of a citywide wi-fi network.

Decatur Georgia has close proximity to the Atlanta downtown and is served by 3 MARTA stations. As a result Decatur Georgia is a top choice for those with jobs in the Atlanta downtown who wish to live in more traditional neighborhoods. Emory University and Decatur are linked by the Clifton Corridor shuttle, a free service, which originates in the downtown.

Decatur GA has invested heavily in educating it's residents. The city boasts an independent school system comprising 4 elementary schools, 1 middle school, and 1 high school. With over 200 teachers of which 70 percent have advanced degrees it is no wonder that test scores remain high. The area is home to Agnes Scott College and Columbia Theological Seminary. Several other large colleges are nearby as well.



Decatur has many plans in place to continue the real estate development which was initiated in the 1960s. Many of the new homes will be in the form of condos and town homes situated in "live work " communities.
